About – A Design Co.

A Design Co. (ADC) is an award-winning Chennai based design studio. It was founded in 2014 by Gowri Adappa and Nikhith Ashok after a successful collaboration.

The studio provides design consultancy services in the domains of architecture and interiors. The portfolio of work handled has expanded progressively from residential to a wider spectrum of typologies including environments for work, study, rest and recreation.

The studio is comfortable engaging across typologies and scales. It continually takes forward the learnings acquired from small projects to maintain the quality of work as the size increases. The practice strives to find small innovations which catalyse a larger positive outcome in use.

We enjoy the process of making

We are increasingly conscious about how our buildings consume energy and resources and proactively engage with consultants and clients to rethink how our projects are conceived and executed to make the spaces we are involved with respond more equitably and sensitively.

The practice has also engaged with the larger community and the City through commissioned and self-initiated projects. It has partnered with ITDP India and the Corporation of Chennai on the 722 BRR ( Pedestrianization project) and is currently anchoring an initiative to create a toolkit for citizen led improvement of neighbourhood parks.

Founders

Gowri Adappa ( Co-Founder | Principal Architect )

is an architect and interior designer. She is a graduate of the School of architecture and Planning, Anna University.

She leads the interiors and the styling portfolio of the studio. She has a keen interest in sourcing, and has built a network of vendors across India and overseas. She has also developed custom wallpapers and finishes in collaboration with some of these vendors. She is a registered member of the Council of Architecture and an associate member of the Indian Institute of Interior Designers.

Nikhith Ashok (Co-Founder | Principal Architect)

Is an architect and furniture designer. He graduated from the School of architecture and Planning Anna University.

He leads the architecture and larger fit-outs handled by the studio. He also actively engages with academia, and has been a juror at a number of design studios/competitions for students. He has lectured at institutions across the country.

He is a registered member of the Council of Architecture (India) and an associate member of the Indian Institute of Architects.
