A chance meeting with an old friend brought to our notice the opportunity to be involved in a project outside our normal bouquet of work. This carpentry shed is located within a school run by an NGO for children in a peri-urban area outside Chennai. This project has potential to showcase the value of good design. It also has created an opportunity for us to engage with coordinating a hands on building workshop that will help realize this building. The practice is keen to explore other such opportunities which help us explore alternative building technologies, and this trajectory will be documented on our blog with other initiatives we are beginning to engage with. The project itself hopes to help the school re-imagine what they were going to build to become a multipurpose space both when in use for classes and after school hours.
